Inshore Fishing and Mangrove Snapper

a close up of a fish

Mangrove snapper, also known as the Grey Snapper, are one of the most popular snapper species and one of the few that can be caught consistently inshore.  They are shaped like most other snappers and display colors ranging from bronze to grey. When catching this fish inshore, they average between 10 and 14 inches in length with a weight average of 1 to 2 pounds, whereas if caught in offshore waters they can reach a size of 20 pounds or more. They are gray or greenish with a lighter underside and have an overall reddish color to their scales. They have a black line that runs from their snout to just below the dorsal fin.
